Edward Marshall Hall, the Great Defender, was at his desk in chambers on the evening of 7 June 1920. He is working on a case to be heard in Leicester Castle and is feeling tired. He nods off and is jolted awake by a clap of thunder. He finds himself transported to the Inner Temple Library 104 years in the future.
